Margaret is Chair of the Northern Ireland (NI) Cancer Research Consumer Forum, and is a Personal and Public Involvement (PPI) representative on the NI Cancer Trials Network (NICTN) Co-ordinating Centre Executive Committee. Margaret was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and has been involved in partnering with researchers, as a patient, since 2010, including membership of several study steering groups and HSC R&D PIER Group. She is a trained facilitator for HSC R&D’s, Building Research Partnerships workshop.
Margaret is a member of Use my Data and Independent Cancer Patients’ Voice. Nationally, she represents NI on the National Cancer Research Institute Consumer Involvement Advisory Group. Margaret is Chair of the Patient Advisory Panel for the Cancer Research UK £20 million Grand Challenge Award.
Prior to her retirement in 2010, Margaret worked for 39 years as a Therapy Radiographer in the NI Cancer Centre with a specific interest in psychosocial oncology – she has a Post Grad in Psychotherapeutic Studies and a Masters in Counselling. In 2004 she was awarded UK Radiographer of the Year for services to patients and carers.
In June 2018 Margaret was awarded an MBE for services to cancer research in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
